Anton Forsberg Headshot

Forsberg -- along with Brandon Saad -- was brought over by Chicago via trade from Columbus on Friday in exchange for Artemi Panarin and Tyler Motte, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

Rather than having to battle Joonas Korpisalo for the backup job with the Blue Jackets, Forsberg becomes the clear No. 2 with the Hawks behind starter Corey Crawford. The 24-year-old Swede was in the crease for just one NHL contest last year, as he spent the majority of the season with AHL Cleveland. In the minors, the netminder posted a solid 27-17-2 record with a .926 save percentage. Forsberg probably won't see as many starts as departed Scott Darling, but his fantasy value is certainly looking up after avoiding the logjam in Columbus.

Artemi Panarin Headshot

The Blackhawks traded Panarin and Tyler Motte to Columbus in exchange for Brandon Saad and Anton Forsberg on Friday.

Panarin flourished while skating on Patrick Kane's line during his two seasons with the Blackhawks, racking up a highly impressive 151 points (61 goals, 90 assists) in 162 contests. The Blackhawks are clearly trying to address the unexpected loss of Marian Hossa with this deal, as Saad's larger frame enables him to play a more complete two-way game, but Panarin will continue to be an elite scorer while skating in a top-six role with the Blue Jackets. The Russian forward's production may dip a bit in 2017-18 since he'll no longer be receiving passes from Kane, but he'll still be an extremely valuable asset in all fantasy formats.

Brandon Saad Headshot

Saad was reacquired by the Blackhawks on Friday -- along with Anton Forsberg -- in a swap for Artemi Panarin and Tyler Motte, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

Saad won a pair of Stanley Cups with the Hawks and returns after a two-year stint with Columbus. The winger should have no problem recording a fourth straight 50-plus point season as he teams back up with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. In addition to the players exchanged, Chicago also sent a 2017 sixth-round pick in return for a 2018 fifth-round selection.

Niklas Hjalmarsson Headshot

The Blackhawks traded Hjalmarsson to the Coyotes in exchange for Connor Murphy and Laurent Dauphin on Friday.

Chicago's lack of youth was evident when the team was swept by Nashville in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Blackhawks are clearly making injecting youth into their lineup a priority this offseason, and that desire is undoubtedly the driving force behind this trade, as the team is moving the 30-year-old Hjalmarsson in exchange for the 24-year-old Murphy and 22-year-old Dauphin. Hjalmarsson is one of the most underrated blueliners in the league, but his skills as a shut-down defenseman don't necessarily translate into fantasy value. The left-handed Swede will likely skate alongside Oliver Ekman-Larsson on Arizona's top pairing in 2017-18, but he's only tallied 143 points (23 goals, 120 assists) in 623 career NHL games, so he'll continue to be far more valuable to his real-life team as a penalty-killing specialist and shot-blocking monster than fantasy owners next season.

Laurent Dauphin Headshot

Dauphin was included in the Blackhawks' move to acquire Connor Murphy in exchange for Niklas Hjalmarsson.

Dauphin saw action in just 24 contests this past season in which he tallied two goals and one helper. The bulk of the 22-year-old's 2016-17 campaign was spent in the minors with AHL Tucson where he racked up a solid 28 points in 38 appearances. The former second-round pick figures to split his time again this upcoming year between leagues -- limiting his fantasy value.

Alex Wimmers (R) Headshot

The Twins designated Wimmers for assignment Friday.

The right-hander absorbed a 4.91 ERA in 7.1 innings with Minnesota this year and fared marginally better with a 3.94 in 16 innings for Triple-A Rochester. Wimmers may stick around as a minor-league depth piece, though the 28-year-old still may find a more useful role for a needy organization.
12:30 pm (EST)
Mason Melotakis (L) Headshot

The Twins designated Melotakis for assignment Friday.

The southpaw showed promise across 26 relief innings at Double-A Chattanooga with a 2.42 ERA, 31 strikeouts and only nine walks. Melotakis, 25, has displayed decent control to complement his often closer-like velocity, which can reach the mid-90s, but his velocity was down at his recent stint for Triple-A Rochester, according to Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com. If Melotakis doesn't stick around and there's nothing physically wrong with him that's causing his dip in mph, perhaps another organization will want to take a chance on his upside.

Connor Murphy Headshot

Murphy was acquired from the Coyotes on Friday -- along with Laurent Dauphin -- in exchange for Niklas Hjalmarsson.

Murphy carries a cap hit of $3.85 million compared to Hjalmarsson's $4.1 million, so this move won't help the Blackhawks cap space. The 24-year-old Murphy is six years younger, which is likely part of the impetus for this swap. Selected 20th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft, the Ohio native has put up 17 points in back-to-back seasons and is still looking to break through the 20-point threshold. The blueliner figures to see an uptick in ice time from his 19:11 per game this past year as well as taking on a bigger role with the man advantage.
12:23 pm (EST)
Dillon Gee (R) Headshot

The Twins selected Gee's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Gee is expected to work as a long reliever initially after taking the 25-man roster spot of Nik Turley, who was optioned to Rochester following his start Thursday. It's expected that Hector Santiago (shoulder), who made a rehab start at Triple-A on Wednesday, will enter the rotation when the Twins require a fifth starter next week. Gee owns a 4.15 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP in 13 major-league innings this year with the Rangers and will probably need to perform well out of the bullpen before getting a look in the rotation.
