Here we are, in the final week of the fantasy baseball season, and this is my final 2 Start Pitcher article of the 2012 season.  If you are in it to win it, then some of these middle tier guys may just help push you over the edge to fantasy victory.  Avoid the guys in the final tier unless you are extremely desperate, and even then, I can't suggest you go there in good faith.

If any of these SPs grace your roster, make certain you insert them for both starts this upcoming week.  I was a little worried about Sale getting benched, but it appears that the White Sox are not willing to take that chance, unlike the Nationals (nah, not at all bitter about losing Strasburg for the final month).  Darvish is the one that frightens me the most, since it seemed he was running out of gas but his recent results belie that thought.

Fiers, Mike RP MIL

Rodriguez, Wandy SP PIT

As I have done all season, I've ranked this tier in the order I would want to add them.  Hughes, despite his inconsistent ways, has come back in a big way.  Likewise for his teammate Pettitte, who has an inning/pitch limit, but pitches for a great team that has a deep bullpen.  Run with both the Yankees as far as you can.  Estrada and Fiers are another couple of teammates that I like a lot, and will be targeting next season when draft season rolls around.  Wilson has disappointed at times, but he is still a quality option, though I don't like his second match up much, given the problems the Rangers gave him last time out.  Lynn continues to be a major find this season, and while I would like more Ks, you cannot really argue with 16 wins.  Holland, Cahill and Milone are all quality options for this final period, and I would target any of them to get some good results next week, but I would worry a bit about Cahill's start in Colorado if push came to shove.  Ramirez is most likely available on the wire, and he's settled down nicely in his last few starts after a rocky June call up.  Beckett, until his last start, has been pitching well in LA; looks like a change of venue did him well.  I feared Liriano was going to be regulated to the pen, but he's redeemed himself and picks up 2 starts this week;  while I don't wish the White Sox any extra success as a Tigers fan, I have a bad case of Liriano appreciation, always have.  Alvarez is another guy I've liked for a couple of seasons, and he's a decent option, despite the dearth of Ks he provides most starts.  Maholm hasn't looked real sharp lately, and I hesitate to trust him, but his match ups are nice.  Wandy is just too up and down to rely on, as are Chen and Leake.  If you feel a sense of desperation, however, they are better options than those in the next tier.

I don't want any of these SPs to darken my roster, and you shouldn't let them potentially cost you a victory.  I am not going to go into detail here, just know that it would be unprofessional of me to recommend any of them as one start options, much less for two appearances.

Good luck and god speed in your fantasy endeavors.  I can be reached for questions about starting pitching or most any other fantasy baseball issue at ia@fantasyalarm.com.  With the season winding down as we head into the MLB playoffs, this will be the last 2Start Pitcher article of the year.  Head on over the football side of our site, and check out our great in-season advice, especially my IDP articles.
