2 Start Pitchers Week 24

Heading into the middle of September, and with all the call ups, our options to stream 2 start pitchers are becoming less attractive.  Still, the middle tier has some decent choices, at least at the top of the tier.

I know it is the first Sunday with actual NFL games going on (I am watching Red Zone as I type this), but there is still time to do some good things in fantasy baseball.  So, with that being said, let's take a peek at what pitchers are going twice this upcoming period.

Only 4 for sure options as far as I am concerned this week.  Dempster has picked things up nicely of late, and Latos is pitching like the top pitcher the Reds envisioned when the obtained him from the Padres over the winter.  With Strasburg being shut down, Gonzalez becomes the ace of the Washington staff, although Zimmerman is no slouch, himself.

I have little to no desire to grab any of the guys inhabiting the bottom third of this tier, as they are just too volatile to take a chance with at this point in the season.  The upper guys, from Haren on through Deduno, are all worthy of being picked up if they are somehow sitting on your league's waiver wire.  Once again, good to see Wandy getting his house in order after the trade.

Morrow and Estrada can give you some nice K numbers, if you can put up with the occasional blip on the ERA and WHIP when they don't have their A stuff.  Ever since I praised Vogelsong a few articles ago he's been making me look bad, so I am dropping him to the middle of the tier.  Moore down through Minor can be serviceable, especially with two starts looming, although you can ignore Kennedy as he is pitching today (Sunday) ruining his two start options this period.  Wainwright has been in a bad funk, and it is still questionable about whether or not Weaver will be back in time to take the mound twice in Week 24.  Masterson can have the odd nice game, but I wouldn't be relying on him.  Gonzalez was a resident at the top of this tier until recently stinking up the joint.  As far as Lester, I simply don't like any Red Sox starter with their poor performance and lack of offense most nights (or days).

Volstad, despite facing Houston, is not usable at this point, and I could say the same thing about Hochevar, Quintana and Jimenez.  White is a Rockies pitcher, and thus not worth a start as he likely won't give you a win anytime during the rest of this season.  Ramirez has been installed into the Mariners' rotation to see what he can offer the team as a SP next season, so I expect even if he stumbles, the team will let him take his lumps, and you don't want any part of that as the season winds down.  Keuchel pitches for the Astros...'nuff said.
