DFS NBA Optimal Lineups: May 1

Bears have released Matt Slauson.

The veteran became expendable with the Bears pick of Cody Whitehair in the second round of the draft. Slauson has been a solid and durable starter for the Bears, starting all 16 of his games in two of his three seasons in Chicago. The vet should have no trouble finding a job helping boost another teams' offensive line.

Damian Lillard told reporters that he's been battling a chest cold for the past few days.

Lillard managed 30 points against the Warriors in game one, but it came on 8-26 shooting from the field, so the cold could have affected him a bit, but he also capitalized on all ten attempts from the free throw line. Lillard remains a must start in all formats, including most nights in DFS. The cold does not appear to be slowing him down that much, so keep using him as you would.

When asked about his recent struggles, Chase Headley told reporters he doesn't think Yankee Stadium is as hitter-friendly as advertised.

Or could it be that Headley is not the hitter he once was? The veteran is showing that he has not gotten to comfortable hitting at home this season, posting a .135 average at Yankee Stadium. He is hitting 39 points higher on the road, but he is not setting the world on fire there either. Headley should not be owned in any format at this point.

Tim Lincecum will hold his long-awaited showcase for interested teams on Friday in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The two time Cy Young award winner is recovering from hip surgery, and wants to show teams he can still help them reach the postseason. Lincecum can still be a solid piece for a contender at the back end of the rotation. For fantasy purposes, if he catches on with a team, he could be useful in deeper leagues and monoleagues. Keep an eye on how the showcase goes, and what teams seem to be interested before making a claim on him.

Jay Bruce was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a walk in the Reds 6 - 5 win against the Pirates on Sunday.

After a hot start to the year, Jay Bruce is settling in. He had a double and two RBI in the Reds win on Sunday. Joey Votto was 1-for-4 with a run, RBI, walk and a stolen base in the Reds 6 - 5 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday.

It took until May first, but Joey Votto stole his first base of the season. This also coincided with the appearance of Billy Hamilton hitting second on Sunday. Although Votto is hitting .230/.330/.310 with two home runs and 12 RBI to start the year. He has had a month similar to his April in May of 2015 but there is plenty of time for Votto to turn things around. Monday could be a tough match-up against former teammate Johnny Cueto though.

Tim Adleman allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts over six innings in the Reds 6 - 5 win over the PIrates on Sunday.

Although Tim Adleman did not get the win in his debut, he pitched well enough to receive consideration to make a start later this week against the Brewers. Adleman is the eighth Red to make his major league debut since the start of 2015. He left with the chance to win but the Reds bullpen gave up a run for the 19th straight game. Adleman sports an ERA of three after his start.

Billy Hamilton was 1-for-4 with a run scored, double and a stolen base during the Reds 6 - 5 win over the Pirates on Sunday.

Sunday marked the first time this season Billy Hamilton hit second in the lineup. He responded with a double, a stolen base and a run scored. His slash line is .220/.281/.356 but Hamilton has shown signs of life in the last week. With Zack Cozart nursing knee tendinitis, Hamilton could find himself back near the top of the order moving forward. He is far from perfect near the top of the lineup, but Hamilton helps Joey Votto steal bases, which helps his fantasy value.

Gregory Polanco was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in the Pirates 6 - 5 loss to the Reds on Sunday.

With a new month, the hot hitting Gregory Polanco of Pittsburgh was not affected. Polanco had two hits on Sunday which included his third home run of the season and he now has 15 RBI. HIs slash line is up to .315/.422/.539 for the year. Polanco may be in the midst of the breakout fantasy owners have been hoping for since his arrival in Pittsburgh. He is 3-for-11 against Monday’s starter Jason Hammel with a double and home run in previous match-ups.
